Michael K. Federman
Michael Federman has vast real estate, structured finance and capital markets experience
having structured acquisitions, mergers, recapitalizations, joint ventures, debt and equity
offerings for major international, national, regional and local underwriters, investment
banks, private equity firms, hedge funds, asset managers, private, public and institutional
real estate owners and developers.
Mr. Federman's structured finance practice includes closing large commercial mortgage
loans, the acquisition of mortgage loans and loan portfolios and workouts and
restructuring of real estate financings and credit facilities. Mr. Federman advises market
participants in all aspects real estate finance, including fixed and floating rate financings,
collateralized debt obligations and trust preferred securities, construction and renovation
financings for office buildings, residential facilities, luxury hotels, condominiums,
shopping center developments and mixed-use projects, leasehold and sale-leaseback
financings, preferred equity investments, permanent bridge and mezzanine loans.
Mr. Federman's real estate practice includes acquisitions, sales, development,
construction, financing, commercial leasing and other matters relating to office buildings,
hotels, regional shopping centers, apartment complexes, condominiums and cooperative
housing, museums, major industrial properties, nursing homes, convenience stores, gas
stations, franchise restaurants and retail stores, assisted living facilities, hospitals, public
storage facilities, religious sites and other types of facilities. Mr. Federman is also active
in air-rights transactions, §1031 tax-deferred exchanges, triple-net lease tenancies and
tenants in common transactions.
Prior to founding the firm, Mr. Federman practiced with the Real Estate
Finance Group of Sidley Austin LLP and the Structured Finance Group of a predecessor
of the law firm of Bingham McCutchen LLP.
